First Upgrades

We spent a lot of time in the house this weekend and some time this evening working on getting our finishing touches in place before we do all the heavy lifting. We didn’t go it alone, though. We “hired” my parents to come down and help out. Our project list includes installing blinds and curtains for the windows, leveling the washer and dryer stands, taking the new chest freezer to the basement, painting in the office, assembling a new dresser, hanging the new mirror, putting up towel bars and shelves in the master bath, painting a pattern in the master bedroom, and finally putting in a towel rack thingy in the guest bath.

So far we have finished the guest and master bath, finished the painting in the office, assembled the dresser, hung the mirror, leveled the W&D stands, taken the freezer to the basement and installed all the blinds and some of the curtains. Here are a few pics to help illustrate the babbling.

That color on the curtains is close. Between the sunlight, room light and flash, it was pretty hard to balance the color on this photo. The dresser is a deep brown. We have the matching night stands and continue that color in the living room with the TV stand as well as the dining table.

Again, the color is tough to balance. Lori and I are both used to having a medicine cabinet and towel bar handy right next to our sinks so we did a little shopping and came up with these guys. They’re not the exact same series as the other hardware in the bathroom, but you have to really look to see that they are different. It’s kind of hard to tell, but that greenish line above the towel bar is the glass shelf.

Here is the guest bath. It’s basically finished, I think. We added the towel rack / hand towel bar thingy and Lori found those cool towels that pick up the gray and the browns in the counter and floor.

Here is the paint work that my Dad, Lori and I did. We’re really happy with the color (think Butler and the Bears) as well as the almost perfect line that we managed to get. I’m going to freely pimp a product called Frog Tape. It kicks traditional painter’s blue tape’s ass when it comes to leaving a crisp edge. We have a bunch of those tables (mostly larger ones) that we will each use as desks in there.

So that’s what we’ve been doing for the last couple of days. We hope to get all the pre-move projects finished by Friday and do all our heavy lifting over the weekend.  Be sure to check back to see it get closer and closer to ready to live in!!
